what is
product tour
in one line
a product tour is a scripted sequence of in-app popups that introduces a product's interface, usually shown to new users on first login.
a product tour is a series of popups, modals, or tooltips that walk a user through an interface in a fixed order. they're usually triggered automatically, often on first login, and point out the main areas of the product.
tours are easy to build and easy to skip. because they run before the user has a goal, most of what they explain doesn't stick. people close them to get to the thing they came to do, then get stuck later when the tour is long gone.
tours still have a place for a short orientation. but for teaching actual tasks, help that appears when the user is trying to do that task tends to work better than a tour they sat through on day one.
where heytappr fits
heytappr flips the tour around. instead of a sequence you push at users, it's a walkthrough they pull when they need it, triggered by their own question and run on the live interface.
